Mrs. Bernice Jeter

Bernice Jeter was born in June 26, 1938, to Willie Masseo and Madgie Polly Lindsay. She was the ninth of eleven children. She graduated from Sims High in Kelton, South Carolina in 1957. She moved to Charlotte and began working as a janitorial assistant at Charlotte Douglas Airport. Later, she joined the employees at Eastern Airlines and retired after twenty-seven years. She also had tenure at the Charlotte Observer News for five years and Triple A where she made her second retirement. To her family, Bernice was loved and well known as “Ant Bunny”. She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Masseo; her mother, Madgie Polly, her brothers, Reuben, Robert and William; her sisters, Frontis, Annie, Hattie and Trannie; and her daughter Clara. On Mother’s Day in May of 1958, Ant Bunny was missing for most of the day. Upon her return, she and Joseph Nathaniel Jeter had gotten married, To this union five children were born.. Ant Bunny was a member of Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church. She attended Sunday School and was member of the Hospitality Committee. One of the things that Ant Bunny loved to do every Saturday was “hat shopping” with her two sisters. To her, hats were a symbol of authority and power, and her thoughts were to cover her head. If you saw her in a blue and white hat, rest assured that her two sisters had on their blue and white hat at their church also. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Joseph Jeter; son, Terry Jeter; daughters, Bernita Jeter, Angela Jeter, all of Charlotte; and Stephanie Jeter of Cartersville, Georgia; seven grandchildren, DeMarco Jeter(Ebony), LaQuanza Jeter(Jerry), DeMazzeo Jeter, LaKeisha Jeter Massey(Bob), LaShia Reid, Demario Evans and James Davis; seventeen great grands; one sister, Lillie Ruth Ivey; two brothers, Thurston and Thornon Lindsay, all of Charlotte; one sister-in-law, Elwillie Tucker of Jonesville, S.C.; many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Home going services will be held 12pm, visitation 11:30am Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church 1243 West Blvd. House of Rosadale Home of Funerals, LLC 3641 Central Ave. is serving the family.
