Mr. Harry L. Nelson

Harry Lee Nelson, born on January 13, 1957, in Florence, South Carolina, peacefully departed this life on February 5, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Harry was born to Lettie Nelson, who lovingly survives him, and Harry McClam (deceased). He was lovingly raised by John Henry Moore (deceased), whose guidance and influence helped shape the devoted family man Harry became. Harry received his education through the Brooklyn, New York school system, where his vibrant personality and love for music began to shine. He was employed by Burke Supply and Kentile Floors, working faithfully to provide for his family, something he took great pride in. Above all, Harry absolutely loved his family and found his greatest joy in caring for and supporting them. Harry was a man full of life, rhythm, and soul. In his younger years, he performed as second lead singer in two bands, Little Chester and the Teenage Dynamites and Stanley Moore and the Bullets where he brought energy and charisma to every stage. He loved singing classics like “Get on the Good Foot,” “High Heel Sneakers,” and “Harry Hippie.” Music lived in his spirit, and wherever he went, joy followed. He loved to cook and earned the reputation of being a great cook among family and friends, shoot pool, dance, and sing. Harry was truly the life of the party. When he entered a room, he lit it up. His smile was infectious, his laugh unforgettable, and his presence remarkable. Harry Lee Nelson leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, music, and unwavering devotion to family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched. Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Bynum; his son, Robert Jamel Bynum; his biological father, Harry McClam; his father who raised him, John Henry Moore; and his brother, Tony Allen McClam. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Deborah Holmes-Nelson; his mother, Lettie Nelson; and his children: Rosezetta Johnson (Marly) and Harry Nelson. He was a proud grandfather to Travis Bennet, Jasmyne Johnson, Shalah Means, Xavier Means, Lateik Jenkins, Rayquan Scott, Desire Nelson, Noah Nelson, Rayme Bynum, Taleik Bynum, Damani Bynum, and Nasir Bynum, and a loving great-grandfather to Antonio Roberts Jr. and Kayden James. Harry also leaves behind his cherished siblings: Barry Moore, Charles Moore (Lazette), Clifton Moore, John Henry Moore Jr., Tanya Newell (Calvin), Mark White (Tawanna), Harry Lee McClam, William Love McClam, Goddaughter Mecca, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Home Going services will be held 12:00pm, visitation 11:00am Monday, February 16, 2026 at House of Rosadale (Independence).
